Planning a magical Disney vacation? One of the most important—and often most debated—topics is using the Disney Dining Plan. If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s worth it, how to maximize your meal credits, or what’s even included, you’re in the right place. As someone who has used the plan on several Disney trips, I’m breaking it all down in simple terms so you can focus more on the fun and less on the food math.
Let’s explore everything you need to know about using the Disney Dining Plan, including current options, what’s covered, the best restaurants at each park, and how to make the most of every bite. And if you’re convinced to get the dining plan, you’ll find a list of all the restaurants and their dining point value at the end of this guide.
What is the Disney Dining Plan?
The Disney Dining Plan (often shortened to DDP) is a prepaid meal package offered to guests staying at Disney-owned resorts. When you book a vacation package that includes your resort hotel and theme park tickets, you have the option to add a dining plan. Children’s pricing is for ages 3-9 years; adult pricing is for 10+. There is no package option for guests under 3 years old because it is expected that they will eat from an adult’s meal.
Using the Disney Dining Plan lets you prepay for meals, snacks, and drinks. This turns your vacation into a more all-inclusive experience. Instead of worrying about what each item costs, you simply scan your MagicBand or room key and enjoy your meal. It’s a great way to take the stress out of budgeting food during your trip. Plus there are more than 170 locations that accept DDP credits throughout the Disney theme parks, hotels, and Disney Springs. So there’s something to delight nearly every taste!
There’s also a certain freedom in knowing meals are taken care of. You’re more likely to try that filet mignon or character breakfast without guilt. After all, it’s already paid for!

Disney Dining Plan Options in 2025
As of May 2025, Disney offers two different dining plan tiers. Each plan includes a refillable resort mug, which you can use at any resort for unlimited soft drinks, coffee, or tea. In the past you may have seen that there were additional PLUS & DELUXE plans, but these are no longer available.
Disney Quick-Service Dining Plan
This plan is perfect for families on the go. You don’t need reservations at quick-service locations. Just walk up, order, and eat.
This Dining Plan Includes:
- 2 Quick-Service Meals (per night)
- 1 Snack/Nonalcoholic Drink (per night)
- 1 Resort-Refillable Drink Mug
Expect to pay:
- $59.14 per guest 10+, per night

Disney Dining Plan
This is the classic plan and the most popular option for many families. This plan works well if you want a balance between sit-down meals and casual dining each night of your stay.
This Dining Plan Includes:
- 1 counter-service meal (per night)
- 1 sit-down meal (per night)
- 1 snack (per night)
- a refillable drink mug (per stay)
Expect to Pay:
- $97.79 per guest 10+, per night
- $30.56 per guest 3 to 9 years, per night (*Most dates-get 20% off in 2025 or FREE in 2026)
What’s Included in Each Meal Credit?
Understanding how your meal credits work is key to using the Disney Dining Plan effectively. Each type of meal offers specific inclusions.
Quick-Service Meals
Quick-service is Disney’s term for counter-service restaurants. These are casual eateries with no reservations required.
Each quick-service credit includes:
- One entrée or combo meal
- One beverage (alcoholic for 21+ or non-alcoholic)
Table-Service Meals
Table-service meals are sit-down dining experiences. Most require advance reservations.
Each table-service credit includes:
- One entrée or buffet meal
- One beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic)
- Dessert at select locations
This credit can also be used for character dining, which adds value—though a few signature restaurants will use two credits.
What do Snack Credits include?
Snack credits are surprisingly versatile and valuable if used well.
Eligible snack items include:
- Ice cream, popcorn, pretzels, or fruit
- Bottled or fountain drinks
- Festival foods and bakery items under $7
*Be Sure to Look for the Disney Dining Plan (DDP) snack icon
What’s Not Included When using a Credit
- Items that are more than a single serving (i.e., a box of doughnuts)
- Items that are served in a souvenir container (such as popcorn or drinks)
- Items considered to be merchandise (i.e., glow cubes, bottle accessories)
- Some special dining events offered at certain Table-Service locations
Important Dining Plan Details
Before purchasing a dining plan, it is important to know all the terms & conditions.
- The number of nights included in the package decides the specific quantity of meals and snacks.
- Plans must be purchased for all guests ages 3 and older and for the entire length of your stay.
- Every meal comes with a drink.
- Guests under 21 years old can select from several nonalcoholic drinks. Guests 21 and older with valid ID may replace beer, wine and cocktails.
- Where available, guests ages 3 to 9 must order from a children’s menu.
- You may use your meals and snack credits any day throughout your stay.
- All meal credits expire at midnight on day of checkout and are nontransferable among party members.
When Do Dining Reservations Open?
Guests with a Disney Resort hotel reservation can reserve dining 60 days in advance for the entire length of their stay (up to 10 nights). This will help streamline your planning, because you can make all your reservations on the same day instead of having to check availability day after day. I highly recommend setting a reminder for exactly 60 days out and logging into the Disney app early to secure your spot.
- Reservations open daily at 6:00 AM EST. Make sure to adjust for your time zone. For example, someone in California should be on at 3:00 AM PST.
- *TIP: Make sure your reservations and/or tickets are already linked for every person you want to add to the dining.
- *TIP: Be prepared with a list of your first 3 preferred restaurant choices per day.
- *TIP: Start with the farthest date because fewer people are able to access those dates.
High-Demand Restaurants to Book Early
Booking dining reservations is crucial when using the Disney Dining Plan, especially for popular spots. Disney allows reservations 60 days in advance, and some restaurants book out the moment they open.
Here are the toughest reservations to snag at Disney World:
- Space 220 (EPCOT)
- Cinderella’s Royal Table (Magic Kingdom)
- Be Our Guest (Magic Kingdom)
- ’Ohana (Polynesian Resort)
- California Grill (Contemporary Resort)
- Topolino’s Terrace (Riviera Resort)
Character Dining at Disney World
The most popular reservations are for character dining, so keep that in mind. It can help to make these reservations later in your trip, if staying at a Disney resort, because people off-site don’t have access to those dates yet. Below are the restaurants with character visits, but to learn about which characters & food offerings, read >> Top Disney World Character Dining Experiences You Can’t Miss
Restaurants with Character Interactions:
- Cinderella’s Royal Table (Magic Kingdom)
- Be Our Guest (Magic Kingdom)
- The Crystal Palace (Magic Kingdom)
- Akershus Royal Banquet Hall (Epcot)
- Garden Grill (Epcot)
- Hollywood & Vine (Hollywood Studios)
- Tusker House (Animal Kingdom)
- ’Ohana (Polynesian Resort) *Breakfast Only
- Topolino’s Terrace (Riviera Resort) *Breakfast Only
- Chef Mickey’s (Contemporary Resort)
- 1900 Park Fare (Grand Floridian)
- Cape May Café (Beach Club)
- Story Book Dining at Artist Point (Wilderness Lodge)
Special Dining Packages
Packages that include reserved seating for a show, such as Fantasmic or the EPCOT festival concerts and Candlelight Processional, are typically included in the Disney Dining Plan.
EPCOT Fantasmic Dining Packages:
1 table-service meal will be redeemed from the dining plan for each person dining at:
- 50’s Prime Time Café
- Hollywood & Vine
- Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano
- Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant
2 table-service meals will be redeemed from the dining plan for each person dining at:
- The Hollywood Brown Derby
Don’t Forget Snacks!
Based on current information, some of the most popular and best value snacks that people often use their Disney Dining Plan credits for include:
- Dole Whip (Aloha Isle, Magic Kingdom): A classic and refreshing pineapple soft-serve treat.
- Gaston’s Cinnamon Roll (Gaston’s Tavern, Magic Kingdom): A large and shareable warm cinnamon roll.
- Mickey Pretzel with Cheese Sauce (Various Locations): A quintessential Disney snack.
- School Bread (Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe, EPCOT): A sweet roll filled with custard and topped with glazed icing and toasted coconut.
- Traditional Poutine (Refreshment Port, EPCOT): A Canadian favorite with french fries, beef gravy, and cheese curds.
- Funnel Cakes (Various Locations, including Epic Eats in Hollywood Studios and the American Adventure in EPCOT): Often large and shareable, with various toppings.
- Blue and Green Milk (Milk Stand, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios): Unique flavored plant-based beverages.
- Werther’s Caramel Popcorn (Karamell-Küche, EPCOT): A rich and delicious caramel popcorn.
- Ice Cream Floats and Sundaes (Various Locations, such as Plaza Ice Cream Parlor in Magic Kingdom and Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies in Magic Kingdom): Often customizable and a good value.
- Specialty Starbucks Drinks (Various Locations): Many specialty beverages at Starbucks locations within the parks and resorts can be redeemed as a snack credit, offering a good value, especially for larger or customized drinks.
- EPCOT Festival Snacks (During Festivals): Many food and beverage items at the various food booths during EPCOT’s festivals qualify as snack credits and can be a great way to sample unique offerings.
- Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie (France Pavilion, EPCOT): Offers a variety of pastries, sandwiches, and soups that can often be redeemed as snack credits.
Best Ways to Maximize Your Dining Plan Credits
If you want to get the best value out of using the Disney Dining Plan, you’ll want to be strategic. Not all meals cost the same, so spending credits wisely matters.
Character dining and buffets offer the best bang for your buck. These meals often cost over $50 per adult if paying out of pocket.
Great Uses of Dining Credits:
- Character Buffets: Tusker House, Crystal Palace, Boma
- Signature Dining: If you’re willing to use two credits, places like California Grill or Topolino’s Terrace provide exceptional value
- Festival Snacks: During EPCOT festivals, snack credits can be used for gourmet bites and desserts, some of which are worth $7–9 each. Look for the DDP icon!
Is the Disney Dining Plan Worth It?
This is the big question, and the answer depends on your travel style. Let’s look at the pros and cons of adding a Disney Dining Plan to your vacation package.
Benefits of Using the Disney Dining Plan
Budget Predictability
You know your food is paid for, so there are fewer surprises during the trip.
Convenience
Ordering food becomes simple. You don’t need to pull out your wallet or check prices.
Psychological Freedom
You feel more relaxed and indulgent when you’re not counting pennies every meal.
Possible Savings
If you eat at expensive restaurants or order higher-priced items, you can beat the cost of the plan.
Average spent on Quick-Service Meals:
- $67-75 per guest 10+, per night
- $28-35 per guest 3 to 9 years, per night
Average spent on Table-Service Meals:
- $95-105 per adult, per night
- $35-45 per child, per night
Dietary Flexibility
Disney handles dietary needs well. Whether you’re vegan, gluten-free, or allergy-sensitive, they’ll accommodate you.
Potential Drawbacks of Having a Dining Plan
Structured Format
You’re tied to a set number of credits. If you skip meals, you might not use them.
Too Much Food
Many guests find it’s just too much to eat, especially when desserts are included.
Time-Consuming Meals
Table-service meals can eat up 60–90 minutes of your park time.
Potentially More Expensive
If you order lower-cost meals or skip reservations, the plan might cost more than paying out of pocket.
Reservation Stress
Popular dining options fill up fast. If you don’t book early, you might miss out.

Final Thoughts: Is the Disney Dining Plan Right for You?
Using the Disney Dining Plan can be incredibly convenient, especially for families who value ease and structure. You can definitely save money if you plan well, book wisely, and aim for high-value restaurants.
That said, it’s not a one-size-fits-all option. If your family prefers spontaneity, eats light, or likes more control over your dining budget, you might be better off skipping it.
The best decision comes from understanding your priorities. If peace of mind and convenience are top values, the Disney Dining Plan is a smart move. If you’re chasing savings and flexibility, paying as you go might suit you better.
Either way, Disney’s food scene is full of fun and flavor. Bon appétit!
